This paper introduces a model to describe tourists’ joint choices of transportation and destination. The proposed modeling approach is based on the principles and methodology of decompositional choice modeling. It represents an extension of the models that have traditionally been applied to single choice processes, towards a more complex model describing joint choices. A specific experimental design has been developed to support the proposed model structure. The results of a simulation study of Dutch tourists’ choices of short city trips are presented to illustrate the modeling principles and show how different interdependencies between choice dimensions can be estimated
