NaY zeolites, ion-exchanged by Ni2+, are investigated by xenon adsorption and by Xe-129 NMR. Sulfided and non-sulfided samples are compared. In addition sulfided samples are characterized by thiophene hydrodesulfurization (HDS). The nickel species are mainly located inside the zeolitic structure in both types of sample, The small nickel sulfide clusters are efficient thiophene HDS catalysts.
