This study is an extension of an earlier study (Kohlrausch & Houtsma, 1991) on the edgepitch sensation evoked by complex tones with a finite number of successive harmonics. In two pitch-matching experiments the salience of the pitch sensation at high edge frequencies and the influence of intensity on perceived edge pitch were investigated. Comparison of behavioural results with electro-physiological responses of single units in the eat's auditory nerve, shows that perception of edge pitch by humans can be partly understood in terms of auditory-nerve physiology
