A microminiature sorption cooler is under development for cooling of small low-temp. electronic devices with a cooling power in the range of 10 mW at 80 K. A thermodn. study shows that a carbon/xenon cooler with thermo-elec. precooling of the gas can be used as a first stage that cools to 165 K with a COP of about 3.5 %. A prototype compressor cell with a length of 5 cm and a diam. of 5 mm is described. In this cell a gas-gap heat switch is applied. [on SciFinder (R)
