Structuring maintenance control systems

Maintenance control deals with the co-ordination of maintenance demand and resources in such a way that stated objectives are satisfied. This allocation problem is characterized by complexity, uncertainty and flexibility. These conditions warrant a hierarchical decision structure primarily aimed at a stepwise refinement of control on the basis of increasingly detailed information.
