Holocene travertins : definitions, generalities and problems. Holocene travertins are associated with various geological deposits in complex combinations. They were rapidly built between 9 600- 7 500 BP and 6 000-3 000 BP. Then, the impact of man on the environment has accelerated their disappearance. A pluridisciplinal study of these geological buildings, based on historical, archeo- logical and scientific arguments, throws a light on the evolution of the adjacent geographical landscape.Les édifices travertineux holocènes associent des faciès variés dans des séquences verticales, longitudinales et latérales complexes.
