The knowledge of Mediterranean Holocene vegetation is based on palynological and charcoal analysis techniques. Travertines bring some information specially on leaves on fruit prints. Deposit chronology is often imprecisely know ; in some cases modern isotopic methods can give a new interpretation of the botanical contents. On the other hand, travertines provide primary arguments to the knowledge of recent holocene mediterranean mesophil azonal forests.
