In den letzten Jahrzehnten lässt sich ein sich stetig erhöhender Bedarf an Minderungsmaßnahmen gegenüber Erschütterungen beobachten. Betroffen von Erschütterungsimmissionen sind nicht nur Personen, sondern auch hochempfindliche Geräte und Produktionsanlagen, z. B. in der Mikroelektronikindustrie oder der medizinischen Forschung. Verursacher der Erschütterungen können einerseits Straßen- und Schienenverkehr sein, aber auch Industriebetriebe und Baustellen kommen neben weiteren Ursachen in Betracht.
