Development of a Capability Maturity Model for Organization-Wide Green IT Adoption

Although organizations aim to become more sustainable, they have faced challenges in creating a clear path to reshape their capabilities in line with the adoption of Green IT. Therefore, they need guidance from a holistic viewpoint to facilitate in their business model adaptation. This paper proposes a maturity model to assist organizations by providing current Green IT maturity determination and guidance in the creation of a roadmap for improvement. We adopt a design science research methodology for developing and evaluating the maturity model. Our model is based on a review of existing Green IT maturity models and is thereafter iteratively developed and refined through a Delphi study. The evaluation of the Green IT model reveals that the model is applicable for identifying the organizational-level capabilities that contribute to Green IT adoption, and to enable organizations to assess their current state of Green IT adoption
