Over the past decades ceria (CeO2) has gained a widespread attention of the researchers from the diverse scientific fieldsincluding fundamental inorganic chemistry, catalysis, and materials science. Unique chemical properties of ceria are linked tothe facile Ce3þ into Ce4þ redox transformations that are particularly relevant for catalytic applications. Herein we overviewthe structure–properties relationships in ceria materials in the context of heterogeneous catalysis. Interactions between activecomponent (metal) and the support (ceria) give rise to the interface catalysis when both constituents are involved inchemical conversion. We emphasize how the latest developments in spectroscopic techniques and imaging allow for deeperunderstanding ...
