Gegenstand der Arbeit ist die Schärfung des Konzeptes der Boundary Objects, um auf der Grundlage dieses Konzeptes einen empirischen Gestand – das heterogene Feld der Servicerobotik – interpretierend erschließen zu können, um abschließend diese Interpretation des empirischen Gegenstandes für eine sozialtheoretisch informierte Weiterentwicklung des Konzeptes zu nutzen. In einem ersten Teil wird die Verwendung des Konzeptes der Boundary Objects nachgezeichnet, und zwar sowohl in ihren beiden Herkunftskontexten (der interaktionistischen Tradition der Soziologie und den Science and Technology Studies) sowie in ganz anderen soziologischen Teildisziplinen.
