The role of parliaments in space and security

There is a new paradigm in Europe in the field of space and security rising over the last ten years. Space and security is brought in the centre of high-level dialogues among institutional bodies in Europe. The objective of this paper is to examine and provide a holistic assessment of the role of Parliaments in Space and Security in Europe. The study delves into the role of the related committees, the initiatives and decision-making processes of Parliaments in Europe. The first part of the paper examines the role of the European and national Parliaments in space and security. The second part identifies the foundation and evolution of interparlamentarian cooperation between the national and European parliament in space and security. The paper provides a way forward on how the Parliamentary context in Europe contributes in maintaining and reinforcing Europe's capabilities, policies and programmes on Space and Security.
