Best cases and challenges of Zero Energy Remodeling in the Netherlands.

By the end of 2020, all new constructed buildings in the European Union (EU) have to meet the standard of Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB). The exact roll-out of this legislation and the definition of the parameters to indicate the level of nearly zero energy differ between the member states. However, in general, the target of newly built Zero Energy Buildings is technically and financially feasible for most member states. Moreover, by the end of 2050, the existing building stock should be NZEB within the EU. A much more challenging target, with the large difference in building typologies, user behavior and climate zones. In this presentation, we will show the best cases of Zero Energy Remodeling in the Netherlands and discuss the main challenges for the coming decades
