We report fabrication of the first low-loss, broadband 37-cell hollow core photonic bandgap fiber (PBGF). Measurements characterizing the fiber are presented, showing absence of surface modes and low modal crosstalk. As such the fiber is exploited for wavelength-division multiplexing using the full C-band and mode-division-multiplexed transmission using higher-order modulation formats, achieving a record transmission capacity of 73.7 Tb/s using PBGFs
