ReaCfions between Ti and AI2O3 were studied in planar joined diffusion couples at 1100°C. Isothermal sections through the Ti-AI-O phase diagram were determined by using the results of diffusion couples as wel as by investigating equilibrated alloys. The quantitative oxygen analysis with electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) was improved by correcting the matrix measurement for the surface oxide influence. The sequence of the reaction layers is discussed by using rhe activity diagram
