Investigation of the interdiffusion and Kirkendall effect in the Co-Ni-Fe-system: I. Redistribution of component concentrations in the diffusion zone and shift of inert markers

Interdiffusion and Kirkendall effect have been studied experimentally in the Co-Ni-Fe system at a temperature of 1100 °C for seven different diffusion couples. It is shown that in the couples studied the distribution of concentrations of the components of the system can have a nonmonotonic character. For each diffusion couple, the Kirkendall shift, concentration at the Matano and Kirkendall planes, and the concentration at the 'neutral point' have been determined.
