ABSTRACT This paper analyses some recent trends and patterns of tourism in Ireland. Although Ireland has long been well known for the recreation and relaxation it can offer, it is only recently that tourism has become a key component of the Irish economy. It generates a total revenue of about /£ one billion annually and supports 80 000 jobs.
