This paper presents attempts to define and differentiate between the terms of multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity. It identifies the various ways of integrating knowledge and names the associated dilemmas that lead to internal contradictions in the perception of interdisciplinary knowledge. References are also made to selected issues associated with interdisciplinarity.
