Migration in post-soviet Russia : the past glimpsed and current changes reflected. Migration can be seen as a population's reaction to a new situation. All the changes that occur in society are registered almost instantaneously, and in a tangible manner, in population movements. Thus, the case of Russia affords an unusual opportunity for analysing the latest migratory trends, occasioned by the sudden reform of the political and socio-economic system following on the collapse of the Soviet Union. In addition, a knowledge of migratory trends makes for a rapid grasp of the significant turning-points which have marked the life of the country. Thus the first period was marked by a new direction in the migratory processes, and the appearance in 1990-92 of massive waves of refugees, reflecting the upheaval which the disintegration of the Union caused in the population. Subsequently, the resumption of "normal" migratory trends, and the return to evolutionary trends show that Russia is well on the way to a market economy, compared with most of the former republics. The further one distances oneself from the date of the collapse of the USSR, the more apparent the gulf among the new states which took shape on its territory, in respect of their political systems, the pace of economic reform, the drop in production and in populations' living standards, and in social stability. We are witnessing a re-definition of socio-economic alignments within the former USSR.La migration peut être comprise comme une réaction de la population face à une situation nouvelle. Tous les changements qui se produisent dans la société se reflètent presque instantanément, et de façon tangible, dans les migrations. Aussi le cas de la Russie offre-t-il l'opportunité insolite de pouvoir analyser les nouvelles tendances migratoires provoquées par la brusque réforme du système politique et socio-économique due à l'effondrement de l'Union soviétique. Par ailleurs, la connaissance des tendances migratoires permet de saisir rapidement les tournants importants qui ont marqué la vie du pays. La première période s'est ainsi caractérisée par une réorientation des processus migratoires et l'apparition, en 1990-1992, de flux massifs de réfugiés, signes du bouleversement que représentait pour la population l'éclatement de l'Union. Ensuite, la reprise de mouvements migratoires "normaux", la restauration des tendances évolution- nistes montrent que la Russie a bien avancé sur la voie de l'économie de marché en comparaison avec la plupart des anciennes républiques. Plus on s'éloigne de la date de l'effondrement de l'U.R.S.S. et plus l'écart entre les nouveaux Etats qui se sont formés sur son territoire se fait sentir dans les systèmes politiques, les rythmes de la réforme économique, la baisse de la production et du niveau de vie de la population, la stabilité sociale. On assiste ainsi à une nouvelle différenciation de l'espace socio-économique au sein de l'ex-U.R.S.S.Zajonckovskaja Žana, Visnevskaja Marina.
