Guyalna viridifemur Sanborn 2019

Guyalna viridifemur (Walker, 1850) new record Cicada viridifemur Walker 1850: 123. (Locality unknown) REMARKS. Although the female examined was collected with two males of a G. dasyeia n. sp., the female has the depressed postclypeus characteristic of G. viridifemur rather than the inflated postclypeus of the male specimens of the new species. In addition, this female structurally matches other female specimens of the species collected at three different localities in Brazil so the species is not a female of G. dasyeia n. sp. Finally, G. viridifemur males differ significantly in their size, coloration and genitalia from the new species. Specimens of G. viridifemur can be distinguished from the other Bolivian Guyalna species by the almost complete transverse piceous fascia on the dorsal head, the almost right angle of the dorsal extension of the timbal cover, the mostly piceous dorsal tergite 2, the piceous markings and piceous pile forming an arch over tergites 3–7, the shorter basal lobes of the pygofer that terminate in a triangular shape, the recurved dorsal crest of the uncus and lobate lateral branch of the uncus. DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported previously only from Brazil (Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013). This specimen expands the range of the species westward. It has been reported from the Distro Federal (Martinelli & Zucchi 1997c) within Brazil and there are specimens from Rio de Janeiro, Cascadura, Rio de Janeiro, Ilha do Fundão, Rio de Janeiro, Luis Antônio, São Paulo, and Chapada near Cuyaba (=Cuiabá), Mato Grosso, Brazil in the AFSC. This appears to be a western record for a species that inhabits the Chacoan-Brazilian Superegion (Rivas-Mártinez et al. 2011) of South America as the species has been found in several subdivisions of this Superegion based on the location data provided here and in the literature.
