The Problem of Divorce and the Break-up of the Family in Poland. The present study examines the problem of divorce, the social situation of divorced couples and their children. Research is facilitated by the fact that, in Poland, divorce, in its juridical aspect as the legalization of the break-up of a family, figures as a social statistic. It is for this reason that this essentially statistical study covers the period 1960-1982 and draws mainly on official data. The writer considers the question of whether divorce is a liberating factor or a social disorder, and goes on to look at the development of divorce in the period under discussion, its demographic aspects (variations of age, sex, place of domicile, social status of those involved)...
