Traditions and Experiments in Territorial Development in Poland. There were numerous planning projects for territorial development in Poland between the two World Wars. Regional space planning was designed to create a framework for private initiative* subject to suggestions and approval by the state. Since the trend to « urbanize» rural districts had the upper hand in regional planning, spatial analysis and cartographic methods prevailed over economic analysis. Despite considerable theoretic and methodological progress regional planning in terms of practical application was not very successful. The groundwork for the execution of regional plans was finally established through the creation of a Central Industrial Area, financed from the governmental plan of investments. The theoretical and practical development of regional planning gave birth to the need for a national plan. Polish theories for planning were in advance of the times and contributed greatly to the development of regional planning methods.Entre les deux guerres, il y eut en Pologne un foisonnement d'idées dans le domaine de la planification spatiale. La planification régionale partait du principe que le plan créé un cadre à l'initiative des entrepreneurs privés tandis que l'Etat ne fait qu'inspirer et influencer cette initiative. La domination du « courant urbaniste » dans la planification régionale fit que l'analyse spatiale et la méthode cartographique prévalurent sur l'analyse économique. Malgré son acquis théorique et méthodologique, la planification régionale n'eut pas de succès considérables en pratique. C'est la création de l'arrondissement industriel du Centre, dans le cadre du plan gouvernemental d'investissement, qui établit pour la première fois les conditions nécessaires à l'exécution des plans régionaux. Le développement de la théorie et de la pratique de la planification régionale fit naître le besoin d'un plan national. La pensée polonaise dans le domaine de la planification a été très en avance sur son époque et la Pologne contribua grandement au développement des méthodes de planification régionale.Kostrowicka Irena.
