This paper presents empirical data about early paternal and maternal scaffolding during a play situation with toddlers. Thirty-one 18 to 20 month-olds infants were observed when interacting with each parent around a sorter task. It appears that fathers promoted more than mothers the child's autonomous functioning : they asked more for the solving of the task and completed it less in place of the child. They also answered more negatively than mothers to the child's solving demand. The child was more motivated to solve the task with the father, and tended to be more successful with him. Then these results were interpreted in terms of paternal and maternal respective and complementary educative contributions to development.Cet article présente...
