The research is focused on the social competence of 4-5 years of age (72 children of second year kindergarten). Each child has undergone three evaluations : 1 / evaluation of its cognitive abilities (k-abc: knowledge and mental process) ; 2 /evaluation of the level of its adaptive behaviors ( Vineland abs) ; 3/ evaluation of the abilities that each child summons up during its play activities, observed in the playground (participation in motor and symbolic collective play forms). A factor analysis reveals a cognitive organisation of the social competence.
