La compréhension des histoires chez le jeune enfant

This study examine the progressive comprehension that children of different ages have of stories presented to them in a visual way. To this end, a very simple animation film was showed to some children (N = 100) aged from 2 ; 6 to 12 ; 0. The first task that was asked of them was to spontaneously tell the story that they had just viewed — immediate memory task. Then, they were asked to expand upond their initial story with the help of an adult proving for further descriptive material. Finally, they had to make a lask narration of the story — reconstitution situation — with the support of five photos of the film. It was found that it is not before 7 ; 0 years old that children can tell all five main events of the story through spontaneous recall (using 75 % as the « accession » criterion). It was also found that it is as early as 5 ; 0 years old that children can tell almost all the story when an adult provides relevant structuring. Finally, it was found that in the reconstruction situation the full recall of the story seems to happen at 6 ; 0 years old. For each of these three situations, we had observed progressive construction of the story, including the 2 ; 6 years old that worded some important events of the film.La présente étude vise à examiner les tout débuts de la compréhension du récit chez l'enfant. Dans ce but, un film d'animation, tout à fait simple dans sa composition, a été projeté à des enfants (N = 100) âgés entre 2 : 6 et 12 : 0 ans. Ces derniers devaient raconter l'histoire visionnée en évocation immédiate, puis à l'aide des questions d'un adulte et enfin à partir de cinq images-photos du film. Prenant comme critère d'accession 75 %, dans la première partie (évocation immédiate) c'est à 7 : 0 ans que les enfants savent raconter l'histoire. Dans la seconde partie (à l'aide des questions de l'adulte), ils y arrivent à 5 ; 0 ans et, dans la troisième partie (avec les images-photos), ils racontent tout à 6 ; 0 ans.
