ABSTRACT : The underlying gnoseology of the French linguiste Gustave Guillaume (1883-1960) is very important in the formulation of his linguistic theory. His conception of a thinking Ego, able to probe its own mind and to penetrate the system of the en langue determined almost all his linguistic methodology and epistemology.
