Mythes et réalités d'un bocage « profond » : agriculture et société agricole du Domfrontais

Agriculture and the agricultural society in the Domfrontais never kept out the main trends of evolution which took place in western France. The transformations of the prevailing agricultural system by successive innovations which were widely circulated, the process of formation and reaching responsabilities of a limited number of farmers, the modalities of social reproduction and the transformation of social relationships, all that, noticed here, may be observed as well in many other regions. The Domfrontais also appears as a specific model. This derives, determiningly, from the reproduction of the agricultural society, reproduction which is limited in space, and the important part played by some family structures.L'agriculture et la société agricole du Domfrontais n'ont jamais été à l'écart des grandes évolutions qui ont concerné l'Ouest de la France. Les transformations du système agricole dominant par l'enchaînement d'innovations largement diffusées, le processus de formation et d'accès aux responsabilités d'une frange limitée d'agriculteurs, les modalités de la reproduction sociale et de la transformation des rapports sociaux que l'on y constate peuvent se retrouver dans bien d'autres régions. Le Domfrontais apparaît aussi comme un modèle spécifique. L'existence de ce caractère relève, pour une part déterminante, de la reproduction spatialement limitée de la société agricole et du rôle important qu'y jouent certaines structures familiales.Chevalier J.
