SUMMARY Sea and coastal fishing is now developed by Irish government which is fully aware of its trading value ; but its product is yet small : about 67 300 MT. of seafishes (triple product of 1963). The very regular demersal fishing is effected, all along the year, by the principal harbours like Killybegs, Howth or Kilmore Quay : in spite of its small product (15 400 MT. /1970), its financial profit is good. The value of the pelagic fishes — especially herring — is smaller, in spite of their 51 900 MT. ; the seasonal herring fishing is effected by the harbours of the northern and southern sea-fronts.
