L'évolution d'une commune agricole proche d'une ville : Saint-Georges-les-Baillargeaux (Vienne)

SUMMARY The commune of St. Georges-les-Baillargeaux, which has a favourable natural environment, and a very long history, underwent a significant change in its agrarian structure between 1850 and 1914. Today the SAU, only 51 % of which is owned by the farmers, is divided into eighty holdings which are rapidly disappearing. It is a rural community facing a crisis, in spite of the exploiters' worth and capacity to make changes, and its future seems uncertain in the area of development between Poitiers and Châtellerault.RÉSUMÉ La commune de St-Georges-les-Baillargeaux, qui possède un milieu naturel favorable et une très longue histoire, connut une véritable mutation de sa structure agraire de 1850 à 1914. Aujourd'hui la SAU, possédée à 51 % seulement par les agriculteurs, est partagée en quatre vingts exploitations qui disparaissent rapidement. Monde rural en crise malgré l'aptitude aux changements et la valeurs des exploitants, sa destinée paraît incertaine dans la zone de développement de Poitiers à Châtel- leraut.Maury Régis.
