The recent epigraphic and archaeological research (excavations and prospections) at Terqa and its surrounding area allows us to reconstruct the occupation process of the Euphrates valley in this region according to a model partly different from that used up to now. The occupation, now also attestated during the Halaf period, did not experience a break as was supposed after the fall of Mari. Recent soundings at tell Mashtale and tell Masaikh, close to Terqa, clearly show that the region of the Middle Euphrates, where the economy was already based on irrigated agriculture in the valley and herding in the steppe, remained occupied to the end of the Bronze Age and at the Iron Age (neo-Assyrian and Aramaean).Les récentes recherches épigraphiques...
