Sites with burnt pits, well represented in northern Europe Late Bronze and early Iron Age contexts, appear in the Limagne d'Auvergne to be more typical of Hallstatt C. Scattered randomly over the Limagne plain and on its western slopes, these sites were associated with small settlements. Some existed only briefly, while others were periodically re-occupied. All show a considerable degree of order in the siting of the pits. The pottery recovered, all of a similar type, is related to the late Bronze Age B repertoire.
