Anthropogenous vegetation corresponds to the plants introduced by man and to the species benefiting from his presence, either directly (cultures) or indirectly (plants growing in rubbish, siliceous and nitrogenous soils). Any vegetation (species or groups) that contrasts with the natural vegetation in density, spatial distribution, ecological importance or provenance, may make archaeological field survey easier, especially in closed environments (forests, moors, warrens) where traditional methods have not previously proved to be efficient.
