A revolution is taking place as a new means to museums becomes increasingly viable. Traditionally museum visitors had to physically go to a museum to experience what it has to offer. However, some museums can now be accessed directly from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Of course the facilities on offer on-line are different and not of the same quality as the real museum itself. This article explores how museums have been using the Internet for access to their collections, and how they could use it in the future. Two case studies of a large and small muséum are included.
