This paper, drawing on numerous studies undertaken by Hood in the United States, examines the lifestyle values that influence how and why individuals involve themselves in leisure places and activities. A principal finding is that frequent visitors to museums can be distinguished from occasional visitors to museums by a number of important factors such as social class, community involvement, cultural activists. This is to be expected. However, this in turn bas an impact on the 'psychographic' characteristics of visitors including their attitudes, interests, group membership and consumer behaviour. The paper describes in detail these differences and discusses the implications for museum programmes and services.Cet article, faisant référence ...
