The sealed early Mesolithic site of Verrebroek, radiocarbon dated to between 8740 and 7560 cal ВС, has yielded an abundant lithic industry, recovered from more than 55 well-preserved artefact units. In the present study a small selection of 162 flint artefacts from three close-lying concentrations has been analysed functionally. The observed use-wear traces support the idea of short-term occupations probably focused on a rather restricted and specialised set of activities (hunting, butchering, wet/fresh hide working and plant processing). Moreover spatial analysis points to a certain degree of spatial organisation of these activities around hearth areas.
