The Christian Right grew up primarily among evangelical and fundamentalist Protestants in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It succeeded in shaping the national agenda, thus establishing itself as a player in American politics. Given the importance of the evangelical values to the Christian Right, this article first defines Evangelical Protestantism.
