L'abri de La Fru à Saint-Christophe (Savoie)

The shelter of La Fru presents a chrono-industrial sequence that covers about four millenia of human occupation, beginning with a pre-Alleröd Magdalenian, going on with an early Azilian level at the beginning of Altered and a late Azilian level of Dryas III, up to a middle Mesolilhic at the end of Boreal. The Magdalenian level is characterized by backed bladelels and dihedral axial burins. It occupies a pre-Alleröd environment, with a fauna consisting of Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) and Ibex (Capra ibex). The Azilian sequence corresponds to two levels dominated by backed points and end scapers. The early Azilian, radiocarbon dated to the beginning of Alleröd, presents an industry on blades and laminar flakes, while the late Azilian, dated to the end of Alleröd and the beginning of Dryas III, has tools made essentially on flakes. The morphological and morphotechnological differences between the two Azilian industries are clear and statistically significant. The fauna of these two Azilian levels corresponds to a more or less dense forest cover, dominated by Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus), Ibex (Capra ibex) and Wolf (Canis lupus). The Mesolithic sequence is very homogeneous, both sedimentologically and palynologically. It includes the climatic periods at the end of Dryas III, Preboreal and Boreal. The levels are continuous ; their industries show some very clear evolutionary characteristics. The fauna is that of a rather open forest, with Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus), Aurochs (Bos primigenius) and Wild Boar (Sus scrofa). La Fru contributes to the knowledge of human occupations during the climatic transition from the Late Glacial (Tardiglacial) to the Holocene in the Northern Alps thanks to the abundance of archaeological material which permits a significant chrono-industrial synthesis, and a good knowledge of the environment for each cultural period.L'abri de La Fru propose une séquence chrono-industrielle qui couvre environ quatre millénaires d'occupation humaine depuis le Magdalénien anté-Alleröd jusqu'au Mésolithique moyen de la fin du Boréal en passant par des niveaux ancien du début de l'Alleröd et récent du Dryas III. Le Magdalénien à lamelles à dos et burins dièdres d'axe se positionne dans un environnement pollinique anté-Alleröd avec une faune composée de Renne et de Bouquetin. La séquence azilienne correspond à deux niveaux où les pointes à dos, les grattoirs et les lames retouchées dominent. L'Azilien ancien daté au radiocarbone du début de l'Alleröd livre une industrie sur support de lames et d'éclats laminaires alors que l'Azilien récent, daté au radiocarbone de la fin de l'Alleröd-début du Dryas III, est constitué d'outils façonnés essentiellement sur éclats. Les différences morphologiques et morphotechniques entre ces deux Aziliens sont nettes et statistiquement significatives. Leur faune correspond palynologiquement à celle d'un couvert forestier plus ou moins dense où dominent le Cerf, le Chevreuil et le Bouquetin. La séquence du Mésolithique, très homogène sédimentologiquement et palynologiquement, intéresse les périodes climatiques de la fin du Dryas III, du Préboréal et du Boréal. Les niveaux sont continus et les industries présentent des caractères évolutifs très nets. La faune est également celle d'un couvert forestier assez ouvert composée du Cerf, du Chevreuil, du Bœuf et du Sanglier. La Fru apporte sa contribution à l'étude des occupations humaines à la charnière climatique du Tardiglaciaire et de l'Holocène des Alpes du Nord et ceci grâce à l'abondance du matériel archéologique qui autorise des bilans chrono-industriels significatifs et grâce à une bonne connaissance de l'environnement pour chaque période culturelle.Pion Gilbert, Billard Michel, Bintz Pierre, Caillat Bernard, Cataliotti-Valdina J., Durand Jean-Marc, Girard Michel, Monjuvent Guy.
