The immense protohistorical complex of Acy-Romance has been excavated since 1981. From year to year it has revealed its diversity and has gained credence as a reference site for the study of the final Bronze Age and of the First Iron Age in northern France. The IIa final Bronze burial site, with inhumations set in the centre of fenced-in circular enclosures constitutes the earliest occupation. Small quadrangular structures with a central incineration appear with the next phase. During the IIIb final Bronze these enclosures gradually lengthen. A sort of entrance bridge is built on the smaller east side and two potsherds, from the same vessel, are put in the ditch south of the entrance.
