La recomposition des identités et des territoires en Iran islamique // The making of identities and territories in Islamic Iran

The ethnie diversity in the Iranian Empire and the country's late conflicting counter with the international modern culture have made the identity debate very acute and sometime violent in Iran. The Azerbayjan and Kurdistan autonomy project in 1946 and the policy of having the nomad's territories under control have set, at the time when the modern national state was in the making, a political and passionate context that impacts on the relations between identity and territory. Provided by the Persian language and the oil industry, the national unity consensus did not get rid of the ethnic and regional identities in the provinces. The Islamic Revolution of 1979 and its aftermath (the Irak-Iran war) was key to the achievement of the nation building process, moreover it became the starting point in the making of a post modern identity linked to migrations, urban growth and to the will of the new Iranian society to share the international culture, in spite of the Islamic regulations. The status of woman has led to the making of a gendered space, split in micro territories, in the public as well as in the private. This tendency is boosted by the strengthening of individual behaviours against ethnic or Islamic collective identities considered as oppressive. Ethnic and regional territories are experiencing renewed identities through the emergence of mid-size cities, but the most vibrant identities are found within Tehran and other large cities, where split spaces are linked by networks, sometimes with an international dimension.La diversité ethnique de l'empire iranien et sa confrontation tardive à la culture mondiale, ont rendu le débat sur l'identité très actif et violent dans ce pays. Les tentatives d'autonomie de l'Azerbaïdjan et du Kurdistan en 1946, et le contrôle de l'espace des nomades ont donné une dimension politique et passionnelle aux rapports entre identité et territoire, dans le cadre de la construction de l'État nation moderne. L'unité nationale, autour de la langue persane et du pétrole, n'a pas annihilé les identités ethniques et régionales des périphéries. Les bouleversements de la Révolution islamique de 1979 marquent l'accomplissement de la construction de la nation (guerre Irak-Iran) mais surtout le début d'un processus de reconstruction identitaire, post-moderne, en relation avec le développement des migrations, des villes et de la volonté de la société nouvelle de partager la culture internationale en dépit des règles islamiques. Le statut imposé aux femmes engendre une sexualisation de l'espace et son éclatement micro-territoires dans l'espace public et privé. Cette tendance est favorisée par le renforcement des identités individuelles au détriment des identités collectives, ethniques et islamique, vécues comme une oppression. Les territoires ethniques et les régions voient leur identité rénovée par le développement de villes moyennes, mais Les identités les plus dynamiques sont recomposées dans le cadre de Téhéran et des grandes métropoles régionales où des territoires éclatés fonctionnent en réseaux parfois internationaux.Hourcade Bernard.
