Abstract : Less well-known than the caves of Kebara or Tabun, situated on the western slope of Mount Carmel, the cave of Geula located on the northern flank, was excavated in the I960' s by E. Wreschner. He recovered an enormous number of mammalian bones and a scanty lithic industry attributed to the Mousterian, in addition to three human fragments identified as Homo sapiens. Nonetheless, the most interesting find is the remarkable faunal list comprising numerous species of carnivores, dominated by the spotted hyena and a classic spectrum of southern Levantine herbivores, gazelle and Mesopotamian fallow deer being the most numerous.
