The Assessment of the Influence of Community Participation on Sustainability of Health Based Projects in Kibondo District, Kigoma.

Community participation on sustainability of development project has become an important form of assistance in developing countries. However, a look at their conceptual foundations and evidence on their effectiveness shows that projects that rely on community participation have not been particularly effective in targeting the poor. However, as this study expounds, the projects are always faced with numerous challenges and the promises of good outcomes of project initiatives are always hard to come by. The purpose of this study was to see the community involvement in health initiatives as a method to keep the flow of benefits and services going when donor financing ceased. Specifically, to measure the extent of community involvement in various phases of projects, to investigate community ownership of roles and responsibilities in project implementation, and to investigate how community members are empowered to carry out project tasks in collaboration with the implementation agency. Statistical Package for Social Science and Microsoft Excel were used to code and analyze the collected data The study and findings demonstrated that while the government exerted control over the establishment of many health projects, community participation in decision-making about project priority and implementation was limited. The findings of the study show that communities be included in projects from the start to promote a feeling of ownership, based on the results of the research. Also, to create a barrier between civil servants and higher-level political leaders must refrain from intervening in health project in district. Research concludes that local people wish to play a central role in the community project participation and decision-making process.
