BRIGITTE GAITI The aim of this article is to examine both historiographical and political aspects of a question related to the FLN-organized demonstration which took place in Paris, on October 17, 1961, and which was extremely violently put down. The question is: how is it possible that the memory of this bloody event went lost. In order to understand how the vanishing of historical events is organised, the article describes the demonstration’s context and its come back, in the 90' s, into publishing and political spheres.
