In the sociological tradition it is more customary to focus on persons than on objects. And yet, objects are essential elements in processes of socialisation. This article analyses the specific properties of objects in their interactions with individuals: how they stock and gibe back a social or individual memory; how they bolster and stabilise identities. Two modes of familiarisation with objects are elucidated via the mind or the body.
