BERNARD CHARIOT RELATIONSHIP TOWARDS KNOWLEDGE AND SCHOOL IN TWO SUBURBAN MIDDLE SCHOOLS This paper presents a research that we are leading in a poor suburban middle school (11-15 years old pupils), comparing its pupils with good students from well- off backgrounds. Can we frame together individual school life stories of pupils and a statistical correlation between school failure and social backgrounds ? This research focuses on how pupils make sense of schooling and learning. It aims at finding processes that structure school life stories : mobilisation within the school and about the school, «epistemic» processes.
