This manuscript discusses the methodological and theoretical limits of the Producer Support Estimate (PSE) developed by the OECD. The authors argue that current deficiencies should limit the role of PSE to mainly monitor the evolution of domestic support within a country. However, results indicate that although PSE is not likely to reflect real value of transfers from consumers and taxpayers to farmers, international ranking of countries based on absolute PSE are still robust when large differences exist.
