The grievance involves nine nurses who were not paid for part of their orientation period. The Union claims this is contrary to the Collective Agreement. Previously, nurses had always been paid for orientation. The Employer\u27s position is that it obtained signed letters from the nurses before they began work, agreeing to forego pay for this time, and the letters constitute a private agreement between the individual nurses and the hospital; the Collective Agreement provides for such arrangements. The Union argues that provision is not applicable as the arrangement can only be with a nurse , and the Employees in question were not nurses or employees at the time they signed the letters
