This report discusses two aspects of the field research undertaken among the Northern Baining, New Britain, Territory of Papua and New Guinea. One of these aspects is methodological and consists of the particular difficulties encountered in this research. As the problems were considered to be greater than those normally encountered in such work, they are discussed at length, with special emphasis placed on the specific consequences for data analysis and interpretation resulting from the type of methodological difficulties which were encountered.
