Rethinking Indonesia’s Green Constitution: Where Do We Go Now?

This article aims to re-examine the concept of Indonesia's "Green Constitution" from a legal perspective. Despite the fact that, Indonesia's Green Constitution makes the protection and conservation of the country's natural resources a legal requirement, environmental deterioration continues to pose a substantial risk to the wellbeing of the country. The paper critically examines the constitutional framework for environmental protection, highlighting gaps and weaknesses in its implementation. In addition, it examines the judiciary's role in interpreting and applying the constitution. The paper offers legal recommendations for reform, such as enhancing public participation and enforcement mechanisms, and incorporating sustainable development principles into the legal system. It concludes that, to have a sustainable future, there must be a renewed commitment to implement the concept of Green Constitution, including stronger legal protections and stricter enforcement. Therefore, a rethinking of the Green Constitution is crucial to achieving sustainable development in Indonesia
