Opinion article in which the transversality of the library profession is defended, its basic essence and the need for collaboration between professionals who work in different fields: university, public, school, national, regional libraries, archives, documentation centers... what it would enrich them professionally and improve the service provided to society as a whole. It starts with a reading of the Foundational Knowledge Areas (FKA) established by IFLA in the Guidelines for Professional Library and Information Science (LIS) Education Program which, according to the author, can be understood as a stimulus to work transversally and collaboratively, breaking down, as far as possible, the barriers that often separate professionals who provide their services in libraries of various types, in documentation centers and archives. The development of these areas, and their concretion in each context, would help us find meeting points
