Studies have shown that contingent utterances which follow into a child’s attentional focus are beneficial for the child’s language acquisition. Concurrently, psychologists have demonstrated that securely attached individuals are particularly resonsive, that is able to react to a child’s signals promptly and appropriately. This thesis analyzes whether the attachment style of the caregiver influences their use of contingent utterances. Data consist of videotapes of 35 German-speaking mother-child dyads (age of child = 5 years), in which mother and child change the diaper of a lifelike baby doll.
